One of the partners that Southminster is supporting from our 2024 Mission Endowment Funds is the YMCA of Greater Birmingham's Roebuck Collaborative initiative. We recently received an update regarding the latest status of this transformative project to revitalize and redevelop the Roebuck/Eastlake Community centered around the Northeast YMCA. This effort involves providing such things as quality healthcare, childhood education and academic support, youth teen and senior programs, and affordable safe housing.
To provide the housing, the "Y" is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build 22 single family homes on 8 acres of property owned by the "Y." The update indicated that great progress has been made on the overall project including most of the infrastructure work has been completed for the housing development. Habitat estimates they will begin building there probably in the June timeframe. That's where you come in -- we have a great opportunity to get physically involved and help build some houses. No experience is required no tools are required just a willingness to get involved and help out -- Habitat provides the tools, equipment and supplies -- we provide the peoplepower. Talk it up and let's get some folks together to help make a difference.
