Who We Are
Loving God and loving all, Southminster Presbyterian begins with the belief that all people are the children of God, joyful recipients of God’s grace, created by divine love and wisdom and called to lives of thanksgiving and service.
As Christians we confess Jesus Christ is Lord, and that his Spirit is among us as God’s living presence in the world. We believe our lives of thanksgiving and service are best found in a community for support, growth, and nurture and that life is a joyful response to God’s love.
As Presbyterians, we are shaped by Word and Sacrament. We believe that God speaks through the Scriptures, as we read and interpret them in light of our experience, aided by modern scholarship. Our interpretation is guided by prayer and strengthened in community with others.
As our Brief Statement of Faith says, “The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture, engages us through the Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation, and calls women and men to all ministries of the church.”
Southminster is a Matthew 25 congregation within the PC(USA) and we are strongly committed to the three goals of this initiative.
Building Congregational Vitality
Dismantling Structural Racism
Eliminating Systemic Poverty
